The 19-year-old singer and songwriter, who hails from Teesside, received a rapturous reaction when she performed at The Buttermarket in Shrewsbury on Saturday before meeting fans for photographs.

She was supported at the gig by Lil Chris, who had a Top three hit in 2006 with Checkin' It Out, former X Factor contestants Giles Potter and Jamie Lee Harrison, and new pop sensation Ever Young.

Martin Monahan, owner of The Buttermarket, said: "Abi performed an awesome set and played completely live, in fact we all thought she was even better live than when we watched her on the X Factor."

He added: "It's a great opportunity for young kids to get up close at The Buttermarket and even personally meet their favourite finalists from this massive TV show."

Miss Alton took to Twitter to express her excitement at performing in Shropshire, posting "great venue, lovely gig".

Sam Callahan will perform at the venue this Saturday after he was eliminated. He will be supported by X Factor contestants Tom Mann and Giles Potter, urban duo GTF and girl group Goodbye Charlie.

The Buttermarket won Best Night Out category in the Shropshire Star Tourism and Leisure Awards last week.
