Police safety vow over V Festival at Weston Park

Police chiefs have vowed to make safety the number one priority at this year’s V Festival at Weston Park.

The festival, which attracts about 90,000 music fans each day including 75,000 campers, will be held across two days from August 20.

Superintendent Dave Holdway said anyone involved in violence, disorder or other crime would face immediate ejection and prosecution.

He said Automatic Number Plate Recognition would be used to scan car number plates and weed out known offenders or people linked to crime as they entered the site.

Extensive CCTV coverage will also be used to target offenders across Weston Park, including car parks.

Superintendent Holdway said: “We want to reassure local residents that we are doing everything we can to minimise disruption and tackle anyone who travels to the area with plans to commit crime or anti-social behaviour.”
