Status Quo ‘would consider another gig in Shrewsbury’
Saturday 16th July 2011, 11:32AM BST.
Status Quo would consider returning to Shrewsbury for another concert, the town’s mayor claimed today after the rockers wowed a crowd of thousands.
The legendary band performed in front of about 7,000 people in the Quarry last night, with town mayor councillor Tony Durnell among those enjoying the 90-minute set, which included hits such as What You’re Proposing, In the Army Now and Rockin’ All Over the World.
He said he had spoken to Status Quo after the gig, who had told him they had enjoyed playing in the Quarry and would consider returning to Shrewsbury for another concert.
“It was fantastic. We were out with the crowd, walking and talking to people.
“Every single person was jumping and bopping,” he said.
“We could do with two or three of these events a year. I have been to a lot of different music events and this was one of the best, if not the best.”
Councillor Durnell said the feedback from people he met was that they wanted to see more performances in the Quarry like the one put on by Status Quo.
“This is what the public is saying to us and that is the message. There are going to be one or two who will complain it might be a bit loud, but it is all finished by 11pm,” he said.
Despite occasional showers of rain, the weather generally held out for the concert-goers, who were also treated to a set from 1970s rockers 10cc.
A spokesman for St John’s Ambulance said two people had been taken to hospital after the gig.

The Mayor is absolutely right. This IS the sort of gig Shrewsbury needs. The quarry is probably the best ampitheatres in the area, and this event proved that with the right bill, the people of shropshire will support it, but we need to attract bands of the stature of Quo as headliners. The only slight blur on the night, is that theatre severn now need to realise that they have moved on from the nostalga nights to putting on a proper show, and most people are paying their ticket money for the headliners. They therefore need to be given a larger time allowance to play a FULL headling set. However, they are moving in the right direction by increasing the decibel leval. More of the same please, a fantastic night enjoyed by a mix of all ages, as testified by my 3 youngsters, aged 2, 6 and 8, who are still buzzing from it, and couldnt stop rocking to the quo all night!!

We were by the St.Johns Ambulance corner and we did see a middle aged lady whom got taken away in the Ambulance fairly early on – the Quo hadn’t even got on stage yet. I can only assume that she was perhaps a little merry before arriving and rocked herself out!
The gig was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
I am only in my mid 20′s but was brought up listening to the Quo and it was fantastic to finally get to see them in concert and even better in my hometown!
My Mum last saw them 40 years ago at the Old Music Hall and she came along with me and my two brothers.
We met old family friends there, whom we used to have ‘music nights’ with and we all rocked along together, with their grand children (both under 10) who also adored it.
We sat near the St. Johns Ambulance corner, just on the raised lip – so we had a great view over the crowds and were able to get nice and close to the stage when we fancies a bit more atmosphere. Ill be honest and say that it wasn’t as loud as I expected it to be, but the bass was fantastic when you were down the front.
QUO, please don’t leave it another 40 years until you return…or you might not be able to! ;)
