Shrewsbury Folk Festival nears a sell-out
Monday 4th April 2011, 4:00PM BST.
Shrewsbury Folk Festival was today on the verge of being sold out after organisers said there was an “unprecedented demand” for tickets.
About 90 per cent of tickets have already been sold for the four-day music extravaganza, which runs from August 26 to 29 at the Berwick Road showground.
Alan Surtees, festival director, last month said he expected the event to be sold out by June after a rush in sales.
But the festival, which attracts daily crowds of up to 6,000, is likely to be fully booked by the end of this month.
A spokesman for the event said: “Almost 90 per cent of the festival tickets are now sold.
“This has never happened before at this early date, so if you are thinking about coming to the festival this year we would recommend you make your decision quickly.
“It is difficult to say how quickly the final 10 per cent will go, we have never experienced this level of demand before, but once they’ve gone that’s it, we have no extra tickets to release.”
Mr Surtees said the early surge in sales would not make a great difference to the overall amount of tickets sold compared to previous years.
