Newtown’s Theatr Hafren will follow the yellow brick road later this month when the venue stages The Wizard of Oz.

Newtown Musical Theatre Company is gearing up for the show which will take place from March 30 to April 2.

The company will be performing the Royal Shakespeare Company’s version of the show, which is based on the well-loved film and features all the well-known songs from the film, including Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Ding Dong the Witch is Dead and We’re Off to See the Wizard.

The part of Dorothy will be shared by two local schoolgirls. Josephine Bowen, who lives in Newtown and attends Caereinion High School, will play the part on March 30, April 1 and the evening of April 2, and Katy Collins, who lives in Montgomery and attends Newtown High School, will play the part on March 31 and the afternoon of April 2.

They will be joined by Bertie the dog, who will play the part of Toto in all performances.

With a live orchestra, brilliant costumes and a fantastic set, this promises to be a real treat for the whole family.

Performances will start at 7.30pm and an additional matinee performance on April 2 will start at 2.30pm.
