Tickets have gone on sale for a hit Broadway musical which is making its Shropshire debut at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn this spring.

Shrewsbury-based Mad Cow Productions is staging The Producers from May 19 to 21. The company is the first amateur dramatic group to get the rights to perform the show in the county since it was released on licence last year.

Posters have begun going up around the town and two of the show’s dancers have posed for a spring-themed photograph to celebrate one of the show’s most well known numbers ‘Springtime for Hitler’.

The show will be the first the group will stage in the auditorium at Theatre Severn having previously produced a play and a musical in the Walker Theatre.

Alex Hinton, the show’s director, said: “Rehearsals are now well underway and this fabulous show is shaping up very well.

“Our rehearsal room is full of laughter, unsurprisingly as the show is so funny, and the Mad Cow herd is going that extra mile to make sure our audiences have a great night out.

“We are delighted with how many people have already got themselves organised and bought tickets, the initial uptake has been strong and bodes well for a fantastic atmosphere in the theatre.”

The show tells the story of has-been Broadway producer Max Bialystock and neurotic accountant Leopold Bloom who devise a money making scheme to get rich by producing a sure fire Broadway disaster, then pocketing the left-over cash when it flops.
