Claude Bourbon’s intoxicating Broseley gig
Wednesday 23rd February 2011, 1:13PM GMT.
A community centre in Shropshire that is used for monthly gigs by players from across the world has been given the seal of approval by two recent performers.
Claude Bourbon, a jazz-influenced folk star with French and Swiss roots, played the Broseley Birchmeadow Centre earlier this month and said he was impressed by the venue.
His concert featured a special guest slot from young local artists Ffion Davies and Tom Andrews.
Concert organiser Caroline Bagnall, a primary school teacher in Broseley, said Mr Bourbon had been delighted to play the venue.
She added: “We have a programme of exceptional concerts and the venue is very popular with our artists. We recently hosted a concert by Otis Gibbs, who said we were among his favourite venues of the year.”
Forthcoming gigs at the venue include an appearance on March 26 by Matt Andersen, a Canadian blues/rock/folk singer; a concert on May 14 by New York singer/songwriter Peter Case and a gig on June 25 by Will Scott, writer of Gnawbone.
Further details on all gigs are available at www.birchmeadow.org.uk/events/ or by telephoning 07890 057832.

I have attended a few of these concerts and have to say that they are absolutely brilliant. Caroline has certainly put the town of Broseley on the map musically by not only inviting some fantastic international artists but also showcasing talented youngsters. My own daughter has actually supported a couple of the artists and I know that she thoroughly enjoyed the chance to get up there on stage and perform alongside such fabulous people! One word describes these concerts and that is phenomenal!
