Reality TV women give us all the feelgood factor

Winners or losers this weekend’s reality television was packed with women who have given the fairer sex something to feel great about this morning, writes Tracey O’Sullivan.

Anne Widdecombe, Mary Bryne and Stacey Solomon take a bow all three – one was crowned Queen while the other two had to bid a sad farewell but they gave us a weekend of back-to-back heroines and we’ll certainly miss just how entertaining they were.

And mostly because each one was as honest as the day is long.

There are no words for how deserving Stacey Solomon is of her win in what was a vintage year for I’m a Celebrity..Get Me Out of Here.

Former Montgomeryshire MP Lembit Opik may have been second to go but he certainly picked the right series to join in the first place – this one will be tough to beat for unforgettable moments.

From Shaun Ryder’s snake bite to Stacey’s crack-shot in the spying game with Dom Joly the highlights on Saturday night’s final made you want to watch the entire series again. Now that hasn’t happened for a while.

And I for one hope Stacey’s reward is a juicy, lucrative career that keeps her in the style she should become accustomed to for a long time to come.

She said it all for me in her reaction to Gillian McKeith’s hysterics – straight and direct rather than like the rest of them gossiping behind her back – and in her response to anything that might have passed for even a white lie.

When Dom and Jenny Eclair were charged with pretending to have a row they were so good at the subterfuge Stacey and Shaun bought it hook, line and sinker.

But it was afterwards when the truth emerged that Stacey proved just how genuine she is – “I’m so glad they were pretending but I did think who are these people” as she mused at how they could lie so well.

Never has so many votes been cast for the one contestant or has anyone won such high praise from all their fellow campers.

Aww bless – the girl from Dagenham done good.

And she was not the only one. It was inevitable and probably only right that she should go but losing Anne Widdecombe on Saturday night before she had a chance to do Anton some serious injury in the final felt like cooking the Christmas turkey and trimmings with a favourite Aunt’s help and then not inviting her to dinner.

I’m not quite sure why but it didn’t seem fair she had to go – especially seeing as Mr Personality Gavin Henson is still in.

The woman can’t dance but just when we needed it she reminded us what fun is all about and I love the fact she said she had no “career” to boost or even kick-start.

Getting soaked in sequins each Saturday night was for the sheer fun of it. In the current climate we could all do with a dose of that attitude.

Now Mary Bryne has certainly kick-started a career and despite getting tantalising close to the final the disappointment at missing out should be softened by news today she is still on target to make a million as mentor Louis Walsh confirmed she would be on the X-Factor live tour and would record an album.

And again I certainly hope she does. Amid the diva tantrums, gossip and scandal surrounding the younger contestants Mary has just got on and done the job belting out tune after tune.

She knows she’s not going back to that Tesco checkout but something tells me she’ll never forget that’s where she started.

It was a great weekend for girl power.

Well done to the three of them . Stacey was so deserving of that win by a mile. She stood right up there and although she was terrified and shaking so much she got on with everything that was thrown at her. Mary was the better in that sing off maybe a few tears like her opponent would have got her through but Mary was gracious in her exit, heres to a promising career for her look forward to her first cd.

Your a fool, What about Katie Waissel. A victim of bullies who never harmed anyone, yet was bullied and abused by morons in the most horrific and I might add sexist way possible. She hung in there didn’t quit like a wuss and left with dignity, where as Anne made a fool of herself and was in favour of laws that persecuted both women and homosexuals. Bruno was right she is a Dalek, she has the morals of one, next to her Davros looks like Che.

when will people start living real lives, these people on these shows are nothing but attention seekers who need to be in the public eye, most of them would turn up at the opening of an envelope if it appeared in some trahy magazine.

i think ann widdecombe deserves special praise, during the second week of strictly she lost her brother malcolm who died suddenly, but the show went on. ann has retired from parliament and now lives near her namesake village of widdecombe on dartmoor.
anton de bek her partner had to travel weekly to newton abbot to help ann with her training in a local dancing school
thank you ann for warming my winter and through the voting phone calls that have raised so much for children in need.
the sooner she becomes baroness widdecombe and keeps the house of lords in check the better. if her old boss michael howard who had something of the night about him can get to the lords so can ann widdecome.
so widdemania has finished no far from it, ann is taking a break and next month starts a strictly tour around the uk with her arch enemy craig revel horwood. the ark royal sails again!
