Shrewsbury river boat could become night venue

Shropshire’s first river boat could open for parties into the early hours and become a top night-time venue if plans are approved.

The Sabrina, moored in Victoria Quay, near the Welsh Bridge, in Shrewsbury, would be allowed to open until 1am seven days a week if plans get the go-ahead.

Partygoers could cruise up and down the River Severn until 11pm, then continue their night with a disco on the boat which would moor up in Victoria Quay.

The vessel was taken over by Andrew Flavell and Dilwyn Jones earlier this year.

They have applied to Shropshire Council for a variation of the licence.

The boat is currently licensed to open from 10.30am to 11pm Mondays to Sundays but, if approved, it could open from 8am to 1am. Alcohol would be able to be served during that time and entertainment could be offered from 10am to 1am.

A decision is expected on the plan at the next Central Licensing Sub Committee on Friday at 9.30am at the Shirehall, Shrewsbury.

I think it is great that someone is finally making great use of one of the towns finest assets, the river and the wonderful surroundings of the town.It has been great to see them all year giving pleasure to locals and visitors to the town.

    Good luck to them

Been a great success in Worcester for years. Can remember the disco boat by the bridge in Worcester back in the late 70′s early 80′s. Great night out. Wish this new venture all the best about time we used the river for more than jst dumping rubbish.

I wish this venture all the very best of success. But with Her Majesty’s Coroner’s near obsession with fencing off the river will the boats rails be at least ten feet high?

What will happen If somebody gets drunk and falls overboard, will the cry be, to put railings around the vessel.
