So, farewell Sandeesh…

Telly Talk: Sometimes it’s no fun being right, admits Tracey O’Sullivan. And watching Sandeesh being booted off the Apprentice last night, a week after I tipped her to go, was a bittersweet victory.

I would much rather have been wrong and seen someone wipe that smug grin right off Stuart “The Brand” Baggs’s annoying mug.

The minute the two teams were given their latest task – to make, market and sell souvenir DVDs – and Stuart was named project leader of Apollo, the man went into overdrive.

This was not so much channelling his inner David Brent but taking the worst of his flaws and magnifying them ten-fold.

With no words but a deathly stare, Stella said it all as he rode rough-shod over his team’s ideas in a decision-making style which left good-old Nick Hewer “trembling with irritation”.

Now as Lord Sugar’s right-hand-man Nick can give a masterclass in summing up a mood with just a few choice words but even he couldn’t quite capture just how shocking the Baggs behaviour was last night. “I have to reign in my masculinity on this task,” he boasted while preparing to take on the drive around Brands Hatch for his team’s experience DVD.

With those ridiculous chubby cheeks I doubt he even has to shave. In fact he could do with growing up, and rapidly, otherwise next week’s episode is going to be even more predictable than this week’s.

In fact I don’t blame Stella for not wasting her breath trying to put the Baggs in his place because he was hanging himself out to dry from the very beginning. It really was a case of give him enough rope.

He stumbled through the challenge and only escaped the final boardroom battle by virtue that someone had given Sandeesh just that little bit more rope. In fact, she may have actually tied her own noose in last night’s final boardroom showdown, but put on a show of integrity that gave us something of a shock last night.

For once a candidate almost left Lord Sugar lost for words as Sandeesh took Liz and Chris back in with her in the final three. She stood by her principles and hauled those in the sales team, the ones she believed were responsible for the failure of the task, back in and signed her own one-way ticket out of The Apprentice.

Had she chosen Jamie, who has shown the odd sign of weakness over the last few weeks, she might have had a fighting chance but she couldn’t fault his contribution this week.

It was a clever move in terms of leaving a lasting impression. She is the first candidate this year to squeeze out a few words of praise from Lord Sugar as she bid her fond farewell. For a candidate famous for doing very little she staked her claim on a better reputation for herself.

Hats off to Sandeesh.
