Telly Talk: Sandeesh escapes Lord Sugar’s boot. Again.

Telly Talk: I’m wondering today whether or not it’s worth tuning in to The Apprentice next week, because surely Sandeesh Samra can’t escape the boot again?
Unless she somehow manages to sneak herself on to the winning team, this living Mii character can’t possibly cling on for much longer.
Surely those “rabbit caught in the headlights” eyes can’t possibly get any wider after her latest boardroom showdown. Her bag has been packed and unpacked once too often.
The ending in seven days time is surely a done deal. She has to be the most useless candidate to have made it this far by default.
Now Alex Epstein, the David Brent of this series, has proved irritating enough for us to be glad to see the back of him but there was that twinge of regret as Sandeesh went back to the house once again.
The problem for Alex was that he was on to a loser from the beginning. The self-proclaimed Public Relations man should have been right at home in the advertising challenge set last night by Lord Sugar. But he would have been better off at a Teddy Bears’ Picnic. That puppy dog appeal ensured the marketing consultant looked totally out of his depth, but at least it was an episode full of slapstick fun.
The former Sir Alan – had to get it in because I prefer it to Lord Sugar, it had a better ring to it – called on his teams Apollo, led by Alex, and Synergy, led by Chris, to come up with a domestic cleaning product and the advertising campaign to go with it.
But the minute Alex said that he was not a corporate clone – “If I was an apple pie the apples inside would be orange” – you wanted to die on the spot for him.
So when he said that a “Germinator” concept would not be taken seriously I wondered exactly what would.
And don’t get me started on his reference to the Blitz being “that bombing thing in London”. It was so frightening that Lord Sugar’s right-hand woman Karen Brady was struck dumb.
By the time his team was voted the losers – a decision taken by Lord Sugar last night – there wasn’t a hope for the Mancunian hopeful. It was his time to go but if ever there was a time for a double eviction twist this was it. And mainly because the main boss admitted that neither team had really won – it was more of a case of Synergy having not lost.
And he was not wrong, with two cringe-worthy campaigns proving there are slim pickings for Lord Sugar among this latest pack of potential recruits.
But win or lose Sandeesh did little to redeem herself in any way from previous episodes which showed she is just not up to any kind of challenge – never mind a £100,000 a year job.
Surely following Paloma’s unwelcome outburst last week and Alex’s ineptitude there is no one left who could represent themselves so badly in that final clash that she would manage to wriggle off the hook again.
Let’s hope so.
