Shrewsbury set for Carols in the Square event

Christmas will come early in Shrewsbury when thousands of people turn out to sing festive songs as part of the town’s annual Carols in the Square event.
Council chiefs today confirmed this year’s sing-along will be held on December 15 and vowed it would be the “biggest and best ever”.
The family event, which has become a firm favourite, will be held at 5.30pm At 6pm Eric Smith from BBC Radio Shropshire will broadcast live from the Square.
Councillor Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: “This has always been a special event in Shrewsbury’s calendar. There will even be song sheets for people whose carols are a bit rusty, so everyone can join in.”
Local Shropshire Council member Dr Maxwell Winchester added: “Carols in the Square is a great opportunity for getting together for an informal sing-along, accompanied by fine musicians and refreshments to keep the chill out.
“This is a very popular festive event in a beautiful setting, so please come and join in the festivities.”
