Tuesday 10th August 2010, 8:22AM BST.
The Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society has a new treasurer who is believed to be the youngest in its 76-year history.
Rachel Fisher, who joined the the society in 2008, was formerly its new members’ secretary.
The 26-year-old, who lives in Telford, said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to this important position within the society which has such a long history.
“I am following in the footsteps of some very long-serving and highly regarded treasurers and only hope I can live up to members’ expectations in a new era for the society.”
Miss Fisher, who is training to be a management accountant at Proto Labs, added: “These are really exciting times for the society with 42 new members being recruited.
“We are all now looking forward to Oliver! – our first show at Theatre Severn.”
Society chairman Steve Thomas said he was confident she was the best person for the role. He said: “We are delighted to welcome Rachel as our treasurer. Any successful organisation relies not only on their performers, but also those hard-working, unsung heroes and heroines working behind the scenes.
“Rachel is certainly one of those heroines and we all wish her well in her new post.”
Oliver! will be staged from February 10 to 12 next year. Tickets on (01743) 281281 from September 13.
