New ticket prices and entry times are being trialled at this year’s Shrewsbury Flower Show to encourage more people to visit the event earlier and enjoy the full package of attractions.

Entry prices will not drop until 4pm instead of 2pm at this year’s show in the Quarry, on August 13 and 14, in a bid to boost daytime crowd numbers.

Gates chairman Maelor Owen said the changes had been applied to both days.

Paying gates for the event which runs from 9am until 10pm will be at the main St Chad’s Church entrance and at the Welsh Bridge, Porthill Bridge and Kingsland Bridge.

Gate entry is £20 (adults) and £18 (over 60s). On Friday, tickets after 4pm will be £14 (adults) and £12 (over 60s).

After 4pm on Saturday tickets will be £12 (adults) and £10 (over 60s). Advance tickets are £17 (adults) and £15 (over 60s). Children enter free. For tickets, call (01743) 234050.

What extortionate prices – don’t they realise that times are hard? How on earth do they expect families to afford a day out at these prices?
If you want more visitors then make you prices more reasonable!

I do not think the prices are extortionate.
Where else can you get a full day`s and evening`s entertainment at these prices.

A lot of volunteers help with the event without them I am sure the prices would be much more.

It is also good to see that the profits from the show are put back into the Shropshire Community.

We have al had to tighten our belts over the past year but this event is something I do not mind spending money on. I look forward to the day out.

Maybe a family ticket for next year could be a possiblity?

Keep up the good work – it`s a credit to you all.

In my opinion, the entry price is just too high. Lowering the price wouldn’t be underselling the event it would be making it more affordable for ALL, and not just those on an high income.

I’ve been to the show, and am amazed at the amount of traders (a real variety) – surely these are bringing in a decent revenue?
