Florence & the Machine close first night of Latitude
Saturday 17th July 2010, 11:31AM BST.
Brit award winners Florence and the Machine brought the first night of Latitude festival to an end in the Obelisk Arena last night.
After much anticipation from the crowd, singer Florence Welch arrived on stage in a white floor-length flowing dress to perform a set consisting of songs from her chart-topping debut album ‘Lungs’, including hits ‘Dog Days Are Over’, ‘You Got the Love’ and ‘Drumming Song’.
The performance was Florence and the Machine’s first festival headline performance, and tops a long string of successes including a mercury music prize nomination and a Brit award for Best British Album.
Other performances on the first night of Latitude came from electronic synth-pop outfit Empire of the Sun who performed songs from their debut album ‘Walking on a Dream’, and Brooklyn-based former web-designers The National who closed the Word Arena with an honest heart-rending set.
