College students to stage Shrewsbury Quarry concert

Music technology students at Shrewsbury College are set to become the first in further education to stage and run a concert on a national level. The concert will be held on July 1 in the Quarry.

It will feature Shed Seven and The Holloways, and is part of a five-day arts and skills festival to showcase the college and its students.

The gig is attracting national interest. “This concert will be the first time students on a national diploma course will have organised and staffed an event of this size as a final major project,” said tutor Beth McGowan.

“The students are working as crew on the gig, from the box office to stage managing. They have been training all year for an event that we hope will become an annual event in the town’s calendar.”

Altogether, more than 200 students from music technology, administration, catering, performing arts, hair and beauty, construction, art and design, engineering, motor vehicle, and other subject areas will be contributing to the event, which will be one of the summer highlights in Shrewsbury.

The full event runs from June 28 to July 2.

Tickets for the Shed Seven concert, costing £15, are available from the box office on (01743) 342699 or by visiting www.shrewsbury.ac.uk/festival
