Bright young things invited to Shrewsbury career day
Monday 31st October 2011, 12:09PM GMT.
College leavers from Shropshire are being urged to attend a new event at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn next week set up to help them take those all-important first career steps.
County Training will be running the Bright Young Things ‘Launch Your Career’ event. It looks to help young people who have recently left college and are looking to find a career through training, rather than going to university.
People aged 17 to 20 who have left college in the past 12 months are invited to come along and hear from Shropshire Chamber of Commerce managing director Richard Sheehan.
He will be talking about employment opportunities in Shropshire and what the future holds for young people living in the county.
County Training will be hosting the event from 3.30pm to 5pm and will be available to share their advice and expertise on the world of work, whilst advertising a wealth of current career prospects available, through the apprenticeship programme.
Jill Barcroft, sales and marketing manager at County Training, said: “We understand the difficulty young people are currently experiencing, however our dedicated recruitment team are in contact with a range of businesses that want to employ apprentices.
“Many organisations have now raised the bar even higher for the calibre of apprenticeship applicants they are looking for to fill their vacancies, therefore, County Training is looking for such individuals who have recently achieved AS or A-levels at college and are ready to take on a new challenge through work.”
The event mirrors the BBC’s Up for Hire series, which has been showing on BBC3 and looks at youth unemployment,
Up for Hire features presenter Richard Bacon and Radio 1’s Tina Daheley hosting live debates over unemployment and the challenges young people face.
