50 jobs with £2m venue at Welshpool site
Monday 26th September 2011, 2:36PM BST.
Up to 50 new jobs will be created in Welshpool next year after planning chiefs gave their approval for a £2 million pub and restaurant to be built in the town.
Marstons, an independent brewing and pub retailing business, will build a 180-seat restaurant on Welshpool’s Old Smithfield site as part of the town’s regeneration project.
The new restaurant will join the company’s estate of food houses across the UK which serve two pub meals for the price of one.
The pub will create 50 full and part-time jobs once it is opened to the public next year.
Steve Roberts, a spokesman for Marston’s, said: “We’re incredibly excited that permission has finally been granted – now the hard work starts to deliver a top quality pub restaurant for families in Welshpool.
“Work is set to start next month and the as yet unnamed pub – which will cater for 180 covers – is expected to open its doors in spring 2012.”
Spencer Cooper, a director of J Ross Developments, the company which co-ordinated the redevelopment of the old Smithfield site, said: “It is part of the town council’s vision to provide vibrant and sustainable facilities for Welshpool.”
