More jobs available despite flat market

More jobs are available than a year ago even though the employment market has been “flat” in recent weeks, according to a report today.
Employment firm Reed said there had been a 20 per cent increase in employer demand since August 2010, although salaries for new jobs were three per cent lower in real terms than at the end of 2009.
New job demand fell back last month in sectors including manufacturing, retail and financial services as well as in the public sector.
Reed said the employment picture was mixed, with demand for new staff up in London, the North East, Yorkshire & Humberside, the West Midlands, Northern Ireland and Scotland but was down in East Anglia, the North West and South West.
Martin Warnes, managing director of reed.co.uk, said: “Even though the jobs market is flat, our figures indicate that there are a fifth more new jobs available now than there were 12 months ago.
“Employers are able to attract the people they need and are investing in the future with skilled staff such as qualified accountants, purchasing professionals and marketers.”
