More than 100 jobs could be created by the centrepiece of a near-3,500 home development in Shropshire.

Proposals for the latest stage of the Ironstone development in Lawley have been unveiled. They include a new foodstore, pub, day nursery, and possibly shops, offices and restaurants.

Morrisons is expected to take over the supermarket and has been designed to its requirements.

The details have been released in plans seeking permission for reserved matters submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council.

The pub is likely to be operated by Marston’s Inns and Taverns.

A design and access statement drawn up by Stephen George & Partners Architects says: “It is intended that the proposed public house/restaurant would serve principally the local community but also that of the wider residential and business communities and is not a typical ‘out of town pub’ having a strong focus on restaurant facilities, emphasised by the food led offering.

“The public house/restaurant would result in employment opportunities for local people both full-time and part-time and would employ approximately 50 people of whom 10 will be full-time.”

The day nursery would provide care for 174 children up to the age of five years, catering for babies, pre-toddlers, toddlers and pre-school as well as an after school and holiday club for up to 85 children.

The nursery would comply with SureStart full day care national standards for under-eights day care and child minding. The statement says: “It is envisaged that the business will provide employment for 40 nursery staff as well as two part-time office personnel and one full-time and two part-time kitchen staff.

There will also be a full-time manager as well as the two owners, who will also work full time.

The statement says the proposals formed the heart of the Ironstone sustainable urban extension. No date has been set for their consideration.
