The number of unemployed people chasing every job vacancy has increased to 18, with half of those not confident of finding work in the next two months, according to a report published today.

Two-thirds of jobseekers have applied for more than 11 posts.

Meanwhile, a quarter of people seeking employment have not been invited to a single interview, said recruitment website totaljobs.com

The study also found that up to half a million unemployed adults have not claimed jobseeker’s allowance, worth an estimated £30 million every week.

John Salt, director at totaljobs.com, said: “For older workers finding themselves temporarily between jobs, it is important their pride doesn’t hold them back from asking for help.

“Those who have previously paid national insurance should consider applying for contribution-based jobseeker’s allowance which provides a six-month cushion whilst they seek their next position,” he added.

Shocking. Has anyone recalculated the numbers chasing each job when the expected 500,000 Public Sector workers join the unemployed, not to mention the 500,000+ private sector employees who will be joining them as a direct result?. Yes, this illigitimate government is going to add over a million to the current jobless total. Can they really justify the speed and scale of these cuts for much longer?.

18 people chasing every job vacancy NOT TRUE I would assume the jobs being chased are full time and above 13k a year , we have plenty of lower paid jobs full and part time available .I and many others expect the unemployed to chase these jobs also , unemployed is unemployed and no job should be beneath them.It is better to stay in some type of job even part time until you can get the job you really want.
