Bosses at a Shropshire college have launched a new course designed to help students thrive and meet new leadership challenges in the workplace during the UK’s economic problems.
Shrewsbury College in partnership with Staffordshire University is offering the Foundation Degree in Leadership and Management from this term.
“This foundation degree is designed mainly for people who are currently employed.
“This is so that new ideas can be taken back to the workplace to make an immediate and direct impact on the work you do and your job prospects,” said John Cooper, UK partnerships manager at Staffordshire University’s Business School.
Shrewsbury College business lecturer Heather Mitchell added: “The course is ideal for people who are progressing in their career and are beginning, or have aspirations, to take on a more responsible role requiring leadership and management skills.
“With the support of your employer, you will both be able to see immediate benefits from your studies.”
Module topics include decision-making, managing individuals and teams, leadership at work, the business environment, marketing, change management and financial resources.
She said there were no exams as assessment is through a mixture of practical and written work-based assignments including a project which should be designed to benefit the student’s business.
