Saturday 7th January 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony has taken place to mark the opening of a new school in Telford on the £35 million Abraham Darby site.
Pupils at Woodlands Primary School will move into their new home on Monday and to mark the occasion, an official opening was held yesterday afternoon.
Invited guests were given a tour of the new facilities, which includes 12 classrooms capable of catering for up to 460 children aged between three and 11 years old.
Its new facilities, which will be available to members of the public, include a fitness suite, 25 metre swimming pool, sports hall and an aerobics studio.
John Demmerling, headteacher at Woodlands Primary School, said: “My staff and pupils are delighted to be moving in and we look forward to welcoming our children back into our exciting new learning environment designed to meet the specific needs of our children now and for the future.”
Councillor Paul Watling, for Telford & Wrekin Council, said the opening represented a good start to 2012.
“I am pleased that we are able to start the New Year with some very good news: that both the new Woodlands Primary School and Abraham Darby Sports and Leisure Centre will be opening on schedule.
“I know that both staff and pupils are very excited about their move.”
