Donnington school is shut over heating

Tuesday 3rd January 2012, 10:59AM GMT.

Youngsters had an extra day at home today after a school in Shropshire was forced to close due to heating problems.

Staff at Donnington Wood Church of England Junior School, in Donnington, Telford, made the decision to close the school this morning after discovering the heating had failed.

An engineer was called to the school in a bid to solve the problem.

Russell Griffin, a spokesman for Telford & Wrekin Council, said it was hoped that the school would be reopened to pupils tomorrow.

More than 130 youngsters go to the school and they were due to return today after the Christmas break.

Mr Griffin said that parents would be able to find out the latest information on the closure on the council’s website.

He said that the website, www.telford.gov.uk, would be updated as information on the heating problem became available.
