Staff and children at a primary school in Broseley are celebrating after it received an ‘outstanding’ rating, the highest possible mark, from Ofsted inspectors.

The John Wilkinson School is now among an elite six per cent of primaries across the country to have achieved the rating. The report was published after a two-day visit from Ofsted inspector Roy Bowers.

Headteacher Jacqui Carter said: “I am delighted that the hard work and commitment of everyone at the school has been recognised by Ofsted.

“We work hard to provide all of our children with the best possible start in life and would like to thank parents and our local community for their support.”

The report said the school provided pupils with an outstanding quality of education. It added: “It has a welcoming and delightfully happy environment in which pupils behave with great kindness and want to do their best.

“Pupils enjoy their learning, behave exceptionally well and mature into polite, thoughtful and considerate young people.”

Mrs Carter said the report also acknowledged the high degree of parent confidence in the school and that pupils were equally complimentary.

In the report one pupil was said to have told the inspector he ‘could not wish for a better school’.

The Early Years Foundation Stage was also judged as ‘outstanding’ in all areas.

The inspector noted: “The very caring ethos, warm, friendly relationships and strong, effective partnerships between staff and parents and carers help ensure children feel confident, secure and safe.”

The report also praised pupils’ high levels of academic skills, strong personal development and outstanding progress.

“It is a school to be very proud of,” it said.
