Meeting to review future of Wakeman School
Monday 31st October 2011, 11:29AM GMT.
Parents, carers and other people concerned about the future of the Wakeman School in Shrewsbury are being urged to attend a public meeting on Friday.
The schools’ adjudicator, Canon Richard Lindley, has called the meeting which will take place at 6.30pm in the school hall.
Last month pupils, parents and staff battling to save the school lost their fight after Shropshire Council unanimously agreed to close it.
The school is due to close in August 2013, as officers claim its future is unsustainable.
But the school appealed against the decision, which has been referred to the school’s adjudicator for a final ruling.
Parent Birgitta Zoutman today urged as many people as possible to attend. She said: “My son, Connor, is high-functioning autistic and I specifically chose Wakeman for its smaller size, logical and simple layout and recommended special needs support.
Andy Rayment, chairman of governors at the Wakeman, said he hoped the review would be resolved before the end of term.
