Building schemes at Shropshire schools are approved

Major construction work at three Shropshire schools will begin in the new year after multi-million pound plans were given the go-ahead.

Telford & Wrekin Council’s plans board met this week to discuss proposals surrounding a new Phoenix School in Dawley, a skills centre at Mount Gilbert School, also in Dawley, and a multi-building development at Newport Girls’ High School. Work at the Mount Gilbert will include raised terraces.

The terraces are expected to provide a new play area and dining facilities.

Education bosses said that the skills centre would allow the school to teach BTEC courses such as training pupils in car maintenance.
