John Challis to open Onny Primary School celebration fete
Friday 16th September 2011, 3:10PM BST.
Only Fools and Horses star John Challis will join campaigners next week for a celebration of their successful bid to save a south Shropshire school from closure.
The actor, best known for his role as Boycie in the BBC series, has agreed to open Onny Village Fete on September 25 with all proceeds going to Onny Primary School. He will appear alongside his wife Carol.
The Wigmore-based actor supported the school’s plan to federate with Lydbury North Primary School. The schools, which were both earmarked for closure by Shropshire Council, will start their new arrangement in the new year.
Jan Giles, chairman of the Friends of Onny School committee, said: “We are delighted to have Mr Challis’s continued support. We are so grateful to him and everyone who pulled together for our school.
“We are hoping that this fete will mark the start of a brand new positive era for the school and as Mr Challis has given so much of his time we thought it only right that he should celebrate it with us.”
