Parents urged to have say on Ifton Heath school axe plan

Saturday 10th September 2011, 11:29AM BST.

Council bosses have received only five representations from people about controversial plans to close a village school near Oswestry.

Parents have been urged to have their say before the consultation ends on Friday.

Shropshire Council plans to close Ifton Heath Primary School in St Martins and send its pupils to a new merged all-through school at the village’s Rhyn Park Secondary School.

Council bosses say the merger would safeguard the future of Rhyn Park School and help the authority meet tough budget constraints.

The unitary council has promised to invest £3.1 million in the new school and has said the shake-up is the best option for the village.

But St Martins Parish Council has called for the merger to be scrapped.

Council member Neil Graham said today it was vital parents wrote to council chiefs to have their voice heard.

Lack of representation may have something to do with the fact that the “consultation” period is during the summer holidays when teachers and parents are on holiday. Something the council no doubt planned. Also the the £3.1 m much of which is being spent building nice new classrooms for Rhyn Park pupils whilst Ifton Heath pupils are expected to occupy the bits they do not want. As for the council if wanth to complain about Keith Barrow’s behaviour towards people trying to safeguard their jobs and their school do not bother as his wife chairs the complaints committee!! Hopefully now people are back they can start fighting again.
