Wait for decision on future of Barrow Primary School
Monday 22nd August 2011, 5:00PM BST.
Campaigners fighting to save a Shropshire primary school from the axe will find out next month if they have been successful.
Six representatives from Barrow Primary School, in Broseley, travelled to London on Friday for an interview with Government officials on its suitability for Free School status.
Greg Day, one of the Barrow 1618 campaign group members who met with officials in the capital for the 90-minute interview, said they would find out in September if they had been successful.
If they are, it would mean the school would become free of local authority control and eligible for state funding.
It would put paid to plans by education chiefs at Shropshire Council, who said the school would shut as part of a countywide shake-up, despite protests from parents
Mr Day said: “We believe we gave a good account of our proposals.”
