Hopes for decision on Barrow Primary School future
Friday 19th August 2011, 3:24PM BST.
The future of one of the county’s oldest primary schools could be decided today when a group of parents meet with Government officials in London.
Members of Barrow Primary School’s campaign Barrow 1618 committee have a 90-minute interview with the Department for Education’s Free School Interviews Team in London today, in a bid to secure the school’s future.
Plans to close the school, which is between Broseley and Much Wenlock, were passed by members of Shropshire Council’s cabinet in May, despite protests from parents.
Simon Pennington, leader of the Barrow 1618 campaign, said: “The directors and members of Barrow 1618 are thrilled that our detailed proposals for a free school have successfully reached the final stages.
“This has been a lengthy process of scrutiny and due diligence assessing the ethos, educational vision and business case within our proposal.
“Our interview delegation will be seeking to emphasise the core values and forward thinking that underpins the aspirations to establish the first primary free school in Shropshire.
“We believe this is a phenomenal opportunity to make a difference to education in Shropshire and would like to thank all the parents, community members, businesses, local councillors, our MP and Church of England Diocese of Hereford for their continuing support.”
