Ifton Heath School ready to act over decision
Saturday 23rd July 2011, 11:29AM BST.
A Shropshire primary school threatened with closure is to make official complaints about the way Shropshire Council conducted its cabinet meeting when decisions about its future were made.
Governors at Ifton Heath Primary School say they felt there had been an automatic bias against them.
Now letters are being sent to various bodies at the council and to leader Councillor Keith Barrow.
Cabinet members voted to enter a statutory consultation period to consider the closure of Ifton Heath and the creation of an all-thro-ugh school on the site of Rhyn Park Secondary.
Ifton headteacher Nicola Bradley said: “Myself and governors were very cross not just with the decision, but with the way the meeting was conducted.”
She said governors were angry that the six-week statutory consultation incl-uded the summer holidays.
Councillor Barrow said: “Each school was given equal opportunities to address Cabinet this week and state their case.
“We will continue to work with the schools and the local community to develop the feasibility design study for the proposed extended school before the final decision is taken.”
