A prestigious Shropshire school is celebrating a set of record-breaking results after students received the greatest number of scholarships in any one year.

Shrewsbury’s Prestfelde Preparatory School, which is based in London Road, has today revealed that 30 of its final year pupils have won scholarships and awards, including nine top academic achievements.

Mark Groome, headmaster of the school, which educates more than 280 girls and boys aged from three to 13, said he was delighted with the results which demonstrated the outstanding commitment from staff and pupils.

He said: “This is our most successful scholarship year in the 82-year history of Prestfelde. We are thrilled with our pupils.

“It’s an incredible time for us, with nine of the top academic scholarships from Shrewsbury School going to our students. They have worked extremely hard and truly deserve their accolades — they have bright futures ahead of them.

“However, 21 of their fellow pupils have also been given prestigious academic, music and sporting awards from some of the other leading schools in the county and beyond, proving what a talented all-round year group we have here.

“We congratulate every one of our Year 8 students on their achievements during their time here and wish them success at their new schools when they start in September.”

Receiving the Butler Scholarship was Tom Sykes, with Dhado McCormack and Charles Wade awarded with Kennedy Scholarships. Luke Lloyd-Jones and Benjamin Sansom were handed Moss Scholarships and Rory Champion, Thomas Dodd, Rhys Elliott-Williams and Louie Stewart achieved Alington Scholarships.

Mr Groome said that Prestfelde was continuing to invest in its facilities at its 30-acre site and planned some exciting developments in the future. The school received an “outstanding” grade in almost all areas of its provision in its latest Ofsted report. It followed an Ofsted Nursery Inspection in the middle of 2009 which gave an overall grade of “outstanding” .

Mr Groome said the results confirmed that Prestfelde School was one of the best preparatory schools in the country.
