‘Tick box’ exam attack over education
Monday 28th February 2011, 3:37PM GMT.
Education has become a “tick-box exercise” and is too exam-focused, headteachers were being told in Shropshire today.
The modern system reinforces pressure to “teach to the test” and leaves little room for “flair, imagination and adventure,” according to Philip Cottam, chairman of the Society of Heads of Independent Schools.
Making the opening speech at the society’s annual conference in Telford, Mr Cottam was expected to criticise the “league table-dominated curriculum.”
