Youngsters at a merged Shropshire school could soon enjoy the benefits of a forest school if plans to convert an area of woodland get the go-ahead.

Mount Pleasant Primary School in Whitemere Road, Shrewsbury, has applied to Shropshire Council to use woodland at its site for educational use; revise car parking, fencing and external lighting.

The school has been extended and refurbished after it was merged with the nearby Mount Pleasant Infants School.

The forest school idea will allow pupils to be taught outside in spring and summer.

A statement in the plans says: “The school’s agenda for the forest school is to establish it over a period of time.

“In the short term, this application seeks permission for a change of use for an area of the existing woodland to bring it into school ownership such that plans can be made to begin the creation of the forest school.” A decision is due by April 11.
