Bridgnorth school spends thousands to fix leaking roof

A Shropshire school is having to spend thousands of pounds to repair its leaking roof.
Rachel Stokes, headteacher at Castlefields Primary School in Bridgnorth, said they have had workers in to fix the flat roof and plumbing on a weekly basis for about the last two years.
She said they had paid out about £6,000 on repair work with the help of funding from Shropshire Council.
Miss Stokes said it was putting a strain on the school’s budget when the money could be put to better use to enhance the children’s education.
The issue was highlighted to Ludlow MP Philip Dunne on a recent visit.
During the tour, Miss Stokes showed the MP the numerous leaks and explained the lack of funds available to fix the problem.
She said: “The school’s roof is now in such bad repair that we are having to get contractors in almost every week to carry out work on it.”
Mr Dunne pledged his support, saying he would discuss the problem with the council.
Miss Stokes said: “I sincerely hope that Philip Dunne can help us with this.”
A Shropshire Council spokesman said: “The council’s surveyors have identified a need for a new roof at the school and this has been put forward for consideration.”
