Shropshire schools maintain good results record

Primary schools across the Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin education areas maintained their good record in tests for 11-year-olds, new league tables show today.

Results in Telford & Wrekin improved but the picture in the borough is skewed because a number of schools were caught up in the SATs boycott.

In the Shropshire Council area of the county, schools continue to have better than average results.

The tables show how pupils performed in English and maths tests, although data for a quarter of schools – around 4,000 – is missing due to the SATs boycott by two of the teaching unions.

Kinnerley CE Primary near Oswestry and Pontesbury CE Primary near Shrewsbury are both included in the national list of the top “most improved” schools in England.

Lilleshall and Sherriffhales schools are both in the top 200 nationally ranked by the percentage of schools achieving the benchmark Level Four in the two core subjects.

Nationally the tables reveal that slightly more primaries scored full marks than last year.

Some 81 per cent of children reached Level Four in English, up from 80 per cent last year, and 80 per cent reached this level in maths, up from 79 per cent.
