Ofsted praises education in Shropshire
Tuesday 23rd November 2010, 9:46AM GMT.
Ofsted today highlighted the “outstanding” education and care being given to children across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
A total of 27 schools, children’s centres, pre-school nurseries and childminders are included in the prestigious Ofsted annual report.
The report, which was laid before Parliament today, marks the achievements of those who have been rated as “outstanding” by Ofsted inspectors.
They range from individual childminders to entire academies.
In the Shropshire education area they include Burford CE Primary near Tenbury Wells; the Shrewsbury Children’s Centre at Harlescott; Birchfield School in (Albrighton;, Prestfelde School, Shrewsbury; an unnamed children’s home, Hillside House Day Nursery, Bayston Hill; Opportunity Pre-school, Shrewsbury; Severndale Special School in Shrewsbury which caters for children and young people from across the county, and six unnamed childminders.
From Telford & Wrekin the list includes Oakengates Children’s Centre, Puddleducks Under Fives, Lawley Village; Bridge Special School at Hadley Learning Community; Madeley Academy; Madeley Nursery School, and eight childminders who are unnamed.
Madeley Academy, which moved to a purpose built facility last year, won praise for the way it helps its students make “exceptional levels of progress.”
Inspectors said highly aspirational targets helped engender a spirit in both students and staff alike to achieve the best they could.
Acting headteacher, Lady Maria Satchwell, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be included in the report. We believe the academy is going from strength to strength.”
Severndale Special School at Monkmoor caters for children and young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
It was said to provide an outstanding quality of education and care under the leadership of a passionate headteacher supported by a dedicated staff team.
They ensured, said Ofsted, that every barrier to learning for pupils with disabilities was removed.
Headteacher Chris Davies said inclusion in the report was “testament to the hardwork of everyone involved.”
Burford primary school gained its accolade after inspectors gve high ratings all lessons.
