A trip to the seaside for group

Thanks to Mrs Margaret Jones, of Tasley Close, Bridgnorth, for the loan of this photo.

Amazing sequel to 1920s tale

A photo carried in the Shropshire Star’s Pictures From The Past feature, showing 1920s pupils at Kemberton School has had an amazing sequel – the little girl holding the board bearing the school name and date, 1926, turns out to be still alive.

Reunion for the class of 84

Where are they now? This is “Newtown High School, 1980″ and a reunion is being organised for them and their contemporaries from the “Class of 84″.

Appeal over lopsided snap

Paul France, of Coalbrookdale, e-mailed in this photo of a mystery group, probably in the Ironbridge area, as the photographer was W.S. Allcock of Ironbridge.

What a real winter looks like

It’s been so long since there was a really hard winter that some youngsters are being deprived of learning what winter is really about.

It’s fitness time for 1950s girls

This is the girls’ PE class of Wrockwardine Wood Modern School in 1957.

Board shows date of snapshot

The board being held on the lap of one of these children from Kemberton School very helpfully gives the date, 1926, without which, all these years on, we would have been left guessing as to when this photo was taken.

Postcard view floods in

It’s strange to modern eyes what sort of things were used as postcard views in the past, but of course they were a principal communication medium in the days before everybody had telephones.

Usually hidden hall revealed

The Shropshire countryside is dotted with fine halls although you may not notice many of them as, naturally, they tend to be set back from the roads and have extensive grounds.

Moving of memorial to Webb

In terms of quality, this isn’t the best photo we have ever published, but it does capture a moment in history, as it was taken exactly 50 years ago, on Tuesday, December 31, 1957.

Mistake on postcard’s caption

The original caption on this postcard photo, which must be about 100 years old, describes it as the “Lunn Hole, Coalbrookdale”.

View taken in war time

Although this view of Shropshire Street, Market Drayton, is not dated, we are quite lucky in that there are some pretty big clues.
