Princess Royal to visit Young Farmers headquarters
Thursday 21st July 2011, 12:39PM BST.
Young Farmers in Staffordshire celebrated the opening of their new headquarters 26 years ago with a visit from The Princess Royal. Now Princess Anne is set to return to the Young Farmers’ office on Tuesday, July 26 as part of a day to celebrate ‘Rural Activities in Staffordshire’.
Some of those members involved 26 years ago will be there to welcome Her Royal Highness, along with today’s Young Farmers who are keen to demonstrate the skills and activities, which ensure the organisation is sustainable as the rural youth movement of the countryside.
Members from all over the county will be in the YFC marquee, which will be attached to the headquarters’ building on the Staffordshire County Showground, situated on the Weston Road, Stafford.
The activities, which the members will be demonstrating to the Princess include traditional activities such as the members of Ridware YFC will explain a display on how to prepare an animal for showing; Eccleshall Young Farmers will demonstrate the art of sheep stock judging; members from Leek YFC will demonstrate butchery skills and Young Farmers from Stone will show off their cookery skills. The highly competitive and popular competition of Tug of War will be demonstrated by Chase YFC; the craftsmanship of hedge laying will be displayed by Uttoxeter JNFU and the skills involved in bricklaying will be shown by Waterhouses YFC. Members from the recently reformed Lichfield YFC will read a specially written poem to demonstrate their Public Speaking Skills and a member from Ashley YFC will sing for the Princess. Members from Cheadle YFC will prepare the posy for the Princess and will be demonstrating the fine art of floristry. The two youngest members in the Federation will present HRH with a posy and two Staffordshire YFC mugs.
