Speedy Clive clocks camera in tractor

A Staffordshire farmer has been caught for speeding – in his JCB Fastrac tractor!

Clive Langford-Mycock of Waterfall near Stoke on Trent  is now branded by some as a mad and reckless tractor driver and although he is taking his fine on the nose he says it was hard to see the speed signs.

“I am not proud of being nicked for speeding and I do deserve everything that is coming to me but a word of warning when you come down Laderidge into Leek and go from 40 miles an hour to 30, it’s not always easy to see the speed signs,” says Clive, a regular columnist with The Farmer.

“Still, no excuses, and all I can say in conclusion is thank goodness the trailer I was towing had high speed low profile tyres and the brakes and lights were in top notch condition.

“In defence of driving fast with a JCB Fastrac,  they are built for high speeds with much of the running gear and working parts being the same design as those fitted to lorries. If nothing else they are a million miles safer on the roads, even at high speed, than conventional tractors.”

Clive has now opted to attend a safe driving course so that he can avoid gaining points on his licence.
