Peter’s 50 years with same Shropshire company
Thursday 10th November 2011, 1:58PM GMT.
A 76-year-old lorry driver is celebrating an incredible landmark after clocking up 50 years of service with the same Shropshire company.
Peter Davies started working for Harnage Estates Ltd in 1961 after moving to Harnage Grange, near Cressage, with wife Jean. And although he is well past retirement age, five decades later he is still working full time as an HGV driver for the farming company.
Mr Davies reached the milestone last Friday and enjoyed another on Monday as he celebrated his 76th birthday.
And while Sir Alex Ferguson may have had an Old Trafford stand named after him to celebrate his 25 years at Manchester United this month, Mr Davies also has a special treat to look forward to for his achievement.
A memorable month for the driver will be rounded off with a ten day trip to Sri Lanka with his wife, which has been organised for him by the company as a thank you for his long service.
Simon Scott, who has succeeded his father David Scott who ran the farm when Mr Davies started, said: “As you can imagine, Peter has seen a few changes on the farm in his time.”
