Shifnal firm turns shredded bills into toilet paper
Wednesday 2nd November 2011, 11:16AM GMT.
Ever wonder what happens to your bills once they pass through the shredder?
Thanks to a Shropshire firm, some end up on the shelves at Tesco’s and Asda – as toilet paper. Workers at WN Security Shredding in Shifnal process 1,300 tonnes of confidential papers which have been shredded every year from businesses and home owners across the country.
The waste paper is then sent to a mill which turns it into pulp before it is made into toilet paper for sale on supermarket shelves.
The family-run business was set up in 1989 by Lou Gardner. She said there has been a boom in the number of people wanting to shred bills or documents with personal details on them.
“When the business started off it was with the idea of recycling,” said Miss Gardner.
