Biocycle contract loss ‘won’t hit’ Ludlow firm
Wednesday 11th August 2010, 11:28AM BST.
Bosses at a south Shropshire biocycle plant have insisted they will remain open for business despite the end of a major council contract.
Officials at BiogenGreenfinch, which runs the biocycle plant at Ludlow Business Park, in Coder Road, have insisted the plant will still be processing food waste and producing renewable energy for the national grid.
An official statement has been made in a bid to quell speculation about the plant’s future.
The company’s contract with Shropshire Council to deal with food waste from homes in Ludlow, Church Stretton and Craven Arms has ended after councillors decided to change its waste collection programme. Food will now be collected fortnightly, rather than weekly.
All food waste in the area will also be sent to be composted at a facility in Market Drayton.
Richard Barker, chief executive officer of BiogenGreenfinch, said: “Biocycle already takes domestic food waste from Flintshire, Ceredigion and Powys County Councils along with commercial food waste from south Shropshire and this will remain unchanged.”
