Beating off competition from Shropshire Homes and Telford-based e-know.net, the McPhillips team picked up the trophy in front of more than 900 guests at the awards which was celebrating its tenth anniversary.

The Telford International Centre last night hosted the biggest business awards night ever in Shropshire which had a World Cup theme ahead of the start of the tournament next week.

President of Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, Tony Randall, told the audience that the county had much to celebrate as it recovered from the recession, with Shropshire businesses showing their resilience amid the downturn.

He said the night was a celebration of excellence and congratulated all of the finalists who had been vying for the awards.

Winners on the night included hedge-cutter manufacturer McConnel, of Ludlow.

The firm picked up a special Champion of Champions award created for the nine previous winners of the Company of the Year award.

Also celebrating was Colin Sinclair, of The Whisky Tasting Company, who picked up the title of Star Idea winner and a cheque for £4,000.
