Colin Sinclair set up The Whisky Tasting Company in January, developing an innovative new service which is unique for two reasons. Watch the video and cast your vote.
First, it is the only service delivering whisky to the home, allowing novices and enthusiasts to experience dozens of varieties annually in sample-sized measures.
Secondly, rare whisky, previously unobtainable or unaffordable, becomes accessible, creating an exclusive alternative to the traditional miniatures and gift set market.
The company has also developed an educational package called The Whisky Tasting Set, complete with whisky-tasting cards and a tasting mat, and is also exploring export opportunities.
Colin told the judges that the company would have hundreds of whiskies for customers to experience and a stream of repeatable annual revenue would come through a membership subscription service.
Colin said: “Scotch whisky accounts for a quarter of the UK’s food and drink exports, at £3.5 billion, with UK sales of around £3 billion. “World sales have grown 500 per cent in value over the past 20 years.
“Our ambitious growth plans begin in the UK in 2010 and to develop export markets in the EU and the USA during 2011. This growth targets 74 per cent of Scottish single-malt whisky consumers.”
Key export markets include Russia and the Far East, and plans are being considered for supplying full-sized bottles to customers. Groundwork for the company began three years ago when Colin spent months touring the highlands and islands of Scotland collecting rare whiskies and meeting distillery managers and workers.
