Blog: English get back less than they put in

Blog: English people pay their taxes the same as everybody else. But they are not getting as much of their hard-earned money back as everybody else.
The British government is spending £8,588 per person in England, but £10,212 per person in Scotland. For Wales and Northern Ireland the figures are respectively £9,829 and £10,706.
It’s a picture of institutional discrimination against the English. For a rural area like Shropshire, things are likely to be even worse, as the political elite has this delusional idea that country areas are well off and the only places of deprivation are towns and cities, which are consequently favoured for investment. Towns and cities also offer more votes. A coincidence, of course.
Devolution has led to a divided kingdom in which some Britons are more privileged than others. While students in England have to pay through the nose for their university education, Scottish students enjoy free tuition. The elderly in Scotland enjoy free accommodation in care homes.
The village of Llanymynech straddles the England-Wales border. Residents on the Welsh side get free prescriptions. On the English side they have to pay, unless of course they are exempt.
Westminster has become a consensus of the bland. There are not many MPs prepared to step out of line on issues like Europe and immigration. Consequently voters feel it doesn’t matter who they vote for, they will be served up much the same. That’s why Lib Dem voters are so angry. They thought they were voting for radicalism, and they ended up with a Tory-led coalition.
These figures show that the English are a disadvantaged majority.
While the devolved governments of Scotland and Wales are doing very well looking after the Scottish and the Welsh, who is batting for England?

I am glad that this has been brought up. I have been saying this for years. We need an ENGLISH parliament. Also why are Welsh and Scottish MP’s with Welsh and Scottish constituencies allowed to vote on English issues when we cannot vote on their issue’s, as they have seperate parliaments.
