Blog: Nicely positioned in the automatic promotion places – now let’s stay there, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.

Town are hitting form at the right time in what was a very impressive week.

Seven goals scored and two wins, including against one of our promotion rivals in Rotherham.

I have been crying out for ages for us to show we deserve to be where we are and prove we can beat our rivals at the top, which made the win at Rotherham even more important.

It is true Rotherham have been struggling of late, but the win must have done wonders for the players’ confidence and should make them feel they have no one to fear.

I have been critical about the team at some stages during this season, but it is easy to forget what a young side we have.

To sit third at this stage of the season with our young squad is very impressive and to see the inexperienced players making the headlines should make any Town fan proud.

It was Bradshaw against Bradford, Collins against Rotherham and Ainsworth against Macclesfield. I must not forget to mention Jon Taylor who has been a real bonus for Turner this season.

If Town’s young players can continue to build on their performances of this season and if we can hold onto them in the summer, the future looks very bright. Promotion wouldn’t go amiss either.

One player who won’t be sticking around is Benjamin Van den Broek who will head back to Holland in July.

I think it’s fair to say we certainly didn’t see the best of the player, but unfortunately he has struggled with injuries and other players in his position have been playing well.

Three wins in a row have really improved Town’s chances of automatic promotion, but the test now is to keep the run going as long as possible.

Next up is a trip to mid-table Aldershot on Saturday who we drew 1-1 with in the reverse fixture in August.

It won’t be easy despite Aldershot having an indifferent home record. They will still feel they a have a chance to sneak in to the play-off positions before the end of the season.

Great time to be a town fan at the moment, lets hope and pray that Bury lose or draw that game in hand.

Hereford tickets are ordered James ;-).
