Blog: Should David Cameron have gone on The One Show?

Blog: David Cameron rated his own life just “six out of ten” when he appeared on BBC’s magazine programme The One Show last night.

Many critics have given him a considerably lower mark than that, however, for deciding to appear on the sofa in the first place.

The prime minister was asked a series of questions he himself has championed as part of a national wellbeing survey, during a suitably syrupy Pancake Day performance.

And, while civil war rages in Libya and protests continue to rumble over the Government’s austerity cuts, it’s fair to say that the questioning was, well, far from robust.

But we shouldn’t be too quick to condemn the Tory leader for appearing on the show.

Any move which brings political messages to a wider audience should be applauded, in today’s apathetic times.

Tony Blair was a master at it – remember his appearances on the Good Morning sofa, and even a stint on the Des O’Connor show?

It’s important, though, for Mr Cameron to balance the One Show approach with similarly candid appearances on more serious political programmes.

You’d hate to think that he was taking the easy way out, to avoid sitting in Jeremy Paxman’s hot seat, facing a grilling from BBC political bulldog Nick Robinson, or fronting up to Sky’s often controversial anchorman Adam Boulton.

He’s had a rough week. Perhaps he was in need of a bit of TLC. And at least we now know his views on whether he thinks an owl or a cat should be employed to kill the latest Downing Street rat…!

Lets face it the man is a complete PLANK ! With the millions he has in the bank, do you honestly think he has any idea what happens on your estate or in my little town or that he gives a flying ***k.
I can’t help thinking that if in his manafesto he had mentioned that:-
We are going to raise VAT to 20%.
Makeing hundreds if not thousands jobless. O’h by the way, we are going to half your armed forces and get rid of the police. Ect Ect.
I wonder how many would have voted for him?
