Blog: Town remain in the promotion hunt after a week of mixed results and late drama, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.

A week which promised so much started badly for Town when a Ryan Lowe-inspired Bury comfortably beat us 3-0 at home.

This result again raised concerns whether Town deserve to be at the top end of the table and whether they are as good as their promotion rivals.

A defeat like this could have really dented the players’ confidence, but they deserve a lot of credit for coming back twice and then grabbing a late winner at Northampton.

This result showed the character and unity within the squad, something that Turner has installed in the team, and something which previous managers failed to do.

Jon Taylor has been a real find this season, along with Bradshaw, and it is great to see Town are developing young players into the first team.

Congratulations have got to go to Turner for picking up February’s manager of the month award.

Four wins and one draw speak for itself, but coming on the back of an awful January, it makes the award even more deserving.

Credit must equally go to the players who have gelled together very well following January’s busy transfer activities.

If Town are going to continue their promotion challenge, consistency is the key from now until the end of the season, starting with Tuesday’s local derby at home to Port Vale.

Town’s form against their fellow promotion rivals has not been brilliant, so we need to start proving we can really mix it with the big boys.

Players and fans should be extra motivated by the fact we owe Port Vale one after they beat us 1-0 in the reverse fixture in September.

Things don’t get any easier as on Saturday we face a trip to the south to face Torquay.

Despite slipping down the table after a fine start to the season they remain a big threat and will still feel they can achieve automatic promotion.

Four points from the next two games has got to be a minimum target.
